Games like Songless
Songless is the daily ear-teaser — but one puzzle a day leaves a lot of morning. These alternatives keep the same ritual (one shared daily challenge, bragging rights included); the first three need no audio at all.
Play right now — no audio required
All three are Dawn Puzzle originals: free, no sign-up, new puzzles at midnight ET, and a share card waiting at the end.
The daily music-guessing family
The Heardle format has many descendants. Rather than pretend to rank them, here’s an honest map by what you want from your daily song:
The original Heardle — and why it’s complicated
The original Heardle was bought and shut down in 2023 — the founding lesson in how fragile audio rights make this genre. Its successors (Songless among them) live on the same mechanic with their own catalogs. Play the ones that are up, love them while they last.
Genre variants
Community dailies exist for nearly every genre — rock, K-pop, musicals, country, classical. Search “[your genre] heardle” and you’ll usually find a live one. The narrower the catalog, the more your deep-cut knowledge pays.
Artist variants
Single-artist dailies are the genre variant taken to its logical end: one band’s whole discography, one second at a time. If you know one artist inside out, these are the most winnable games in the entire format.
Lyric and word games
If it’s the guessing you love rather than the audio, lyric-guessing dailies and word games fill the gap with zero licensing risk. Our own no-audio trio above is built exactly for that lane.
How to choose
- Want the song-a-day ritual? Play the official Songless on its site — nothing here replaces licensed audio.
- Want more puzzles after it? Pick one no-audio daily (year-guessing scratches the same recall itch) and one RNG or comparison game for texture.
- Want depth? Genre and artist variants reward specialist knowledge more than any general daily ever will.
